Have now returned to the condo in Bangkok, just for the night. Start my cycling trip tomorrow so meeting the group fresh off the plane at the airport. After chilling out for a few days on the beach I'm quite excited about meeting new people and getting off my arse and being more active. I fear for my thighs and my thirst, cycling up to 90km a day in nearly 40 degrees though!
Koh Tao was definitely a good shout for the week. Very chilled out, hippy and slightly grungy vibe to the island. Very distinctive 'tribe' hanging out there. Females need to be ridiculously tanned and blonde with ankle bracelets and slouchy shoulder bags. The guys can look a variety of different ways but Billabong shorts MUST be worn at all times! And if you're in your early 20s more's the better.
I am surprised how civilised and modern Thailand is, although the islands were a bit more primitive, the mainland is a lot cleaner, smarter and built up than I imagined. It reminds me more of Malaysia in that sense. But all in a good way. I just expected more shitty areas with people living in huts etc. I think it's changed a lot over the last 10/15 years.
I still can't believe this is my life for the next few months or more, lucky me...
